About Emissions Test
An independent site, Emissions Test answers one question for drivers across the United States: is an emissions test required for my car, and what should I do after a failure?
1. Who runs the site
The company behind emissions-test.com is Hawthorne Compliance Group Inc., based at 333 South Grand Avenue, Suite 2500, Los Angeles, CA 90071, United States. We're not a testing station, an environmental agency, or a state DMV, and no agency funds us or reviews what we publish.
2. Where the rules come from
The rules on this site come straight from each state's own program page, run by the DMV, an environmental agency, or the official testing contractor. On every state page you will find a list of the pages we used. Once a year we read them again, and we also read them on the day a state announces a change.
Figures for repair costs are drawn from published estimators like RepairPal and Kelley Blue Book. These figures are averages, so a quote from a local shop can be higher or lower.
3. How the checkers work
Your browser is where the checkers run. They use the numbers you type together with the state rules above; nothing goes to us. Your browser's own storage holds the last car you checked, so a return visit picks up where you stopped. It disappears when you clear your browser data.
